About our speaker

Alisha Hamel from the Historical Outreach Foundation is an experienced historical presenter. She is a Lt. Col. in the Oregon National Guard, and as such was tasked to develop a Lewis and Clark presentation to take to schools during the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial. The program proved to be so popular; she continued it after the bicentennial and expanded it to include “Oregon’s Role in WWII.” This program was adopted nationally by the National Guard. After the Oregon National Guard could no longer fund this education program, Alisha started a non-profit, The Historical Outreach Foundation to continue to take these history programs out to schools and organizations throughout Oregon and into neighboring states. Alisha has also finished a documentary about the 41st Infantry Division during WWII that premiered in Salem on September 18, 2012, and has written many news articles.

The Historical Outreach Foundation also supports the Oregon Military Museum and has now started a major $6.5 million capital campaign for the Oregon Military Museum to open it as a regional attraction to showcase Oregon’s military history.

My Friends,

I am excited to invite you all to our special December luncheon. On 27 December we will graciously host many of our current cadets home for the holiday break.

So catch up on the latest state of the Corps. See what’s new, what hasn’t changed from our days of old, share stories and enjoy the company.

Regardless of the topics, I am sure the 27th will be a fun time for all. So please join us then:
–   Friday, 27 December
–   The Old Spaghetti Factory
–   715 SW Bancroft St., Portland (off MacAdam Blvd just south of the Aerial Tram)

October Luncheon, Friday 18 October

This luncheon will take place on Friday, 18 October (not the regular Wednesday)

October’s program will be on a different date, so that we may hear from a special guest.
MAJ Katherine Kennedy ’02 will talk about the exploits of the 320th Psyops Company she recently deployed back from Afghanistan. She is truly an exciting and inspirational speaker, and we are honored to have her back with us (now sporting those fancy golden oak leaves!).

To steal a quote from MAJ Kennedy’s CV:

I am passionate about what I do, but more passionate about my troops. I believe the heart of each of our branches lies with those we lead and would love to share with other academy grads. My goal is for you to walk away from the meeting knowing me, understanding psychological operations, knowing that Afghanistan still matters, and supporting my troops through prayer.

MAJ Kennedy has balanced incredible careers as Company Commander, 320th Tactical PSYOP Company and the her civilian role as Operations Engineer, Washington River Protection Solutions, DOE Hanford Nuclear Reservation.

Please join us if you are in the Portland area on the 18th:

1) Date: Friday, 18 October

2) Location: The Old Spaghetti Factory, 715 SW Bancroft St., Portland (off MacAdam Blvd just south of the Aerial Tram)

Thanks, Mike!

The Museum has come far, but there is still a long way to go. I urge all of you to consider supporting the Historical Outreach Foundation so that they can continue to spotlight focus on the history and honor of Oregon in service to our country. you can go here anytime to offer pledges of support: http://oregonmilitarymuseum.org/contribution.html.

Here is the link to the newest Museum Report: http://oregonmilitarymuseum.org/files/curators_reports/2013-03.pdf.

Finally, thank you to Rick Goodell ‘68 and Nate Sandvig ‘98 for putting together this and all the great luncheon programs this year.

I hope you all enjoy the extended sun and warmth of the coming summer months. I will keep in contact and update you as we get ready to start our luncheons up again in September.

Until then…..Go Army!
